SEVRES - Hard porcelain Medici pedestal vase resting on a square base in imitation of marble, with polychrome decoration on one side of a profile portrait of Louis Nicolas DAVOUT in cameo style on a brown background in a large medallion surrounded by a frieze of laurel leaves and floral scrolls in gold and platinum set against a blue background. The other sides are decorated in gold with the inscription BENEHADY. THÈBES. AUSTERLITZ.
EYLAU. MOHILOW. HAMBOURG between two olive and oak branches and the DAVOUT coat of arms adorned with a helmet and the Order of the Legion of Honor enclosing the inscriptions ECKMÜL and AUERSTÄEDT. The rims are enriched with friezes of palmettes, foliage, flowers and rosettes on a gold and platinum background.
Charles X period, circa 1824 (slight chips to pedestal spandrels).
Marks on reverse: 24 f. D Y, 05 Dbre 25 and Sèvres stamp of the Charles X period dated 27; stamp repeated on the inside of the vase.

Louis Nicolas d'AVOUT puis DAVOUT, duc d'AUERSTAEDT, prince d'ECKMÜHL, born May 10, 1770 in Annoux, Burgundy, and died June 1, 1823 in Paris, was a French general of the Revolution and Empire, elevated to the dignity of maréchal d'Empire by NAPOLÉON I in 1804. He was named Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor in 1805. He distinguished himself at the battles of Auerstaedt and Eckmühl, earning his titles of nobility, and became peer de France in 1819.
