ILE MAURICE. - Copper printing plate used to print the Mauritius No.1 and No.2 reproduction. Family history: after having bought from the heirs of Peron Philateliste at 16 rue Drouot in 1914, Mr. Sarback, in 1938, discovered during the renovation of the store, a hidden chest of which nobody knew the existence. It was in this trunk that the plate we are presenting for sale was found. At this stage of our research, we can't say for sure whether it's one of the original copper plates used to print nos. 1 and 2, whose existence we suspect. What we can be sure of is that reproductions have been made from this plate, probably in Paris, of which we enclose copies, in black and some in color, already presented at public sales.
