A GIUSTINIANI RED WARE PART DESSERT SERVICE NAPLES, CIRCA 1830 - A GIUSTINIANI RED WARE PART DESSERT SERVICE NAPLES, CIRCA 1830 Painted in the Attic manner with Etruscan subjects, comprising; ten dessert plates, 24.5cm diameter, two low kylix comports, 8.5cm x 25cm and two larger, 11cm & 11.5cm x 27cm, all with a Vitruvian scroll inner border save the larger of the four comports, impressed script Giustiniani marksNicola Giustiniani established the works in Naples in 1760, originally producing cream-coloured earthenware and prospered into the 19th century, eventually closing about 1885. It was helped in part by the closure of the royal porcelain works in Naples in 1821. With the discovery of the buried ruins of the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the historical artefacts uncovered there which went on to influence art movements throughout Europe, Naples was therefore very much on the Grand Tour circuit. Wealthy tourists from Northern Europe would wish to buy souvenirs, Antique copies and associated items and the Giustiniani works were just one of many factories reproducing bronzes, ceramics, glass etc. after the Antique and this can clearly be seen here in the decoration of these plates.Examples of the works of Giustiniani can be seen at the Palace of Caserta, built for Charles VII of Naples and completed by Ferdinand IV of Naples. For those interested, a visit to the Reggia at Caserta, a world heritage site, would justify a visit to Naples on its own merits even without the other rich historical wonders on offer in Naples and its environs.

White porcelain plate by Dagoty, with the numeral: "N" crowned in gold, wing edged with a gold fillet, signed on the back with a red vignette of the: "Manufacture de S. M. l'Impératrice - de P. L. dagoty - Bd Poissonnière... Paris"; diameter 23.7 cm (some wear and some wear to the vignette). First Empire period. Good condition This service was delivered to Fontainebleau by DAGOTY, prior to the coronation, on November 17, 1804 (Reference Archives nationales O2 498, n° 374.

Part of a white porcelain dinner service painted in polychrome with beautiful floral decoration between two gold fillets, on the wing a bouquet of violets with flowering branches, and in grouped bouquets punctuated with stylized daisy-queens at the basin. The spoon spatulas are monogrammed HP in Gothic. In its black wooden case, enhanced with brass fillets, the interior sheathed in red (accidents). Rare Meissen tea service with "Exotic water plants" decoration for six persons. 15 pieces; teapot, cream jug, sugar bowl, 6 cups with saucers, 6 confectionery plates. "Large cut-out" shape. Flower-shaped curved rims. The wall and the mirror with large depictions of various exotic plants, including the Miltonia orchid, water lily, marsh milkweed, sun and nymph star and arum in polychrome overglaze painting. Gold rim. Form designed by Ludwig Zepner, c. 1972, decor designed by Horst Bretschneider (born 1952), decor no. 500310, year mark. Sword mark. Jug h. 20 cm. Cup h. 5 cm. Plate d. 18.5 cm. The exotic plant motifs stand out against the white ground of the porcelain. Horst Bretschneider's designs, based on nature studies, are arranged into imaginative compositions, whereby the blossoms are delicately surrounded by the leaves, executed with broad brushstrokes and in partly restrained, pale green tones, and their plasticity is underlined by fine color accents.
