Vereinzelt leicht berieben. Insgesamt sehr gut. Hervorragender Guss m - Turn of the century - Sculpture Levasseur, Henri Louis Lecene des Faunes. Circa 1900. bronze relief with green patina. 41 x 26 x 13 cm. Signed (incised) and titled. - Some dusting in the recesses, also verso. Slightly rubbed in places. Overall very good. Excellent cast with even patina. Levasseur depicts a young woman, lightly clothed, sitting on a sphinx in side profile. The stylistic context can be placed in relation to the widespread Egyptomania and the cult of the Orient that prevailed in numerous European countries around the turn of the century and in Art Nouveau, influencing ideas of beauty and femininity. The French sculptor was extremely successful as a sculptor with his bronze and stone sculptures at the turn of the century and exhibited regularly at salons and exhibitions throughout the country.
