Circular box in lava stone, mounted in pompom. The lid is decorated with a polychrome micro-mosaic depicting doves drinking from a cup, inspired by the decor of Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli. Roman work from the early 19th century, follower of Antonio Aguatti's workshop. Enclosed is a manuscript "À maman par Madame R Montaign, je pense que Charles saura apprécier à sa valeur et qu'elle lui fera plaisir". Diam. 9 cm - Height 2 cm (Good condition, small dents on the mounting) The subject features doves drinking from a basin, inspired by the "Doves Mosaic" attributed to Sôsos of Pergamon in the 2nd century A.D., located in Hadrian's villa at Tivoli. The theme was revived in the early 19th century, following the discovery of the mosaic in 1737 by Cardinal Furlietti. This object bears witness to the souvenirs brought back from the "grand tour" in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Dagneaux or Dagueau Mme, oval miniature on ivory: portrait of the Emperor Napoleon I dressed as a horse hunter of the Imperial Guard, green habit, collar and red piping, he wears the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Legion of Honor, the plaque and, in half size, the Officer's Cross of the Legion of Honor and the Iron Crown; chased and gilded brass surround, with acanthus leaves; wooden frame veneered with lemon tree; on the back, a handwritten inscription: "L'auteur M. de Dagneaux, currently Madame Lavalard pupil of Robert Lefebvre. This lady had been commissioned by him to make several intended to adorn the boxes for the foreign affairs officers, at the collapse of the Empire, he remains 2 or 3 of which this is part"; height 55 mm, width 43 mm, frame 19 x 15 cm. Brown tortoiseshell box or drageoir inlaid with friezes of small stylized motifs in mother-of-pearl and vermeil (?), the lid adorned with a miniature under glass depicting a Mediterranean landscape after Joseph Vernet encircled with pomponne (small missing parts). Rectangular mahogany travel case for men, with rounded edges, lid decorated with brass fillets and a shield and, on the side of the front, with two stars and a notch for opening; brass lock plate, cloverleaf key; mahogany interior divided into two compartments, the first fitted with two crystal flasks with silver stoppers, two boxes with silver compartments, one of which fits into a timbale, an inkwell and a removable shaving brush; the second has three superimposed trays: the first with two razors, a pair of scissors, a toothbrush and a knife.This compartment is fitted with a secret system for accessing the third tray, which has twenty-three holes for holding gold louis. The inside of the lid is embellished with a hanging mirror. Length 34.5 cm, width 14 cm, height 8 cm (a few small accessories and the key are missing). First Empire, Restoration period, 1809/1819. Circular box in gray marble with gold rim Lid adorned with a warrior bust cameo. Souvenir du Grand Tour D. 6.5 cm

Fine Louis XVI gold tabatiere à Deux Couleurs yellow and red gold. Oval shape. Base, wall and hinged lid covered with richly guilloché net structures. Cassette-like structure with relief pearl band and calyx decoration. On the lid a miniature portrait behind glass in a high oval shape, framed by a stylized wreath of leaves, with a bust portrait of a rococo lady with powdered, highly topped hair and an elegant ice-grey and blue dress. Tempera painting on ivory. Decorated with Hanau prestige marks in the style of French foam marks, such as those of the Parisian tenant Julien Alaterre. Master probably Esaias Fernau (active from ca. 1762). Weight 185 g. H. 3.3 cm. 8.3 cm x 6.2 cm. CITES certificate available. Provenance: from the important collection of the Frankfurt banking family von Bethmann, which grew over generations. This tabatiere is a typical example of 18th century gold boxes made in the style of the Parisian and Swiss goldsmiths; Paris was considered the European center of goldsmithing at this time. Hanau also developed into an important production site for gold tabatiers in the 1760s, partly due to the influence of French goldsmithing in Europe and a large number of goldsmiths of Huguenot origin who moved here, and was able to keep up with the high quality and fine design of France. Today, works by the Hanau goldsmiths can be found in renowned museums such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Musée Cognac-Jay in Paris and the Fürstliche Schatzkammer Thurn und Taxis in Regensburg. The maker's mark "EC" under a lily and crown on this tabatiere is illustrated by Lorenz Seelig in his article "Eighteenth Century Hanau Gold Boxes" published in 2015 in the Silver Society of Canada Journal (pp. 45, 46, Fig. 50), where it is attributed to the Hanau bijoutier Esaias Fernau ("Esaias et Compagnie"). Fernau was active from around 1762 and worked with various partners such as Daniel Marchand and the enameller Friedrich Wagenfuehrer. A tabatiere attributed to Fernau can be found in the Louvre in Paris, inv. no. OA 2173. A fine German Louis XVI gold snuff box probably by Esaias Fernau (active since 1762) with miniature portrait on ivory. Hanauer prestige marks in the manner of French hallmarks. Master's mark. Circular box in pressed horn and 750 thousandths yellow gold, decorated with piastres. The lid is adorned with a miniature depicting a portrait of a woman, the interior in tortoiseshell. The reverse in hair with lattice decoration protected by a glass. Louis XVI period. Diam. 7.6 cm. Gross weight 99.3 g. (small deformations to the mounting, the lower part needs to be refixed, small accidents to the miniature).

Signed Kansai. Dim. 15 x 40 x 31 cm. Wooden box The Koma family line of lacquerers was founded by Koma Kyui (1600-1663). They were appointed Goyo Makie Shi (Shogun-appointed lacquerer) by the shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu. Koma Kansai II was the master of lacquer artist Shibata Zeshin.

Rare KPM-Berlin Art Nouveau bonbonnière with pâte-sur-pâte and jewel decoration Box in the shape of a reclining Easter egg with a domed lid on an oval, slightly flared stand. Cobalt blue background on the wall, below a recessed leaf relief border. Rich, all-round floral decoration of fine relief gold tendrils with transparent, burgundy, sun-yellow, green and milky opaque pink and turquoise fused enamel flowers and leaves, so-called jewelled porcelain. The lid framed in a drop-shaped reserve with a raised depiction of a woman's head in profile in white pâte-sur-pâte painting on a grass-green background. In the picture painter's monogr. Elegant sterling silver cigarette box. Cuboid body with strict, smooth, straight walls. Push-in lid. Cedar wood interior. After a design by F. A. Breuhaus, 1930. 925 mark, maker's mark. Weight approx. 230 g. H. 9 cm. 5.6 cm x 5.1 cm. The architect Fritz August Breuhaus de Groot (1883-1860) was a member of the Deutscher Werkbund from 1910 and a titular professor from 1928. In addition to his work as an architect in Germany and Switzerland, he also designed cutlery and cabinetry, some for well-known manufacturers such as WMF.
