Subordinate officer's saber for the horse hunters of the Imperial Guard, slightly more luxurious model, single-branch brass hilt, chased and gilded, decorated with two fillets; front auricle chased with a Gorgon's head in high relief; quillon terminating in a foliate finial; long-tailed cap engraved with foliage and terminating in a lion's head; ebony spindle, filigree with gilded threads. Blade with rush and counter-edge, finished in carp tongue, blued and gilded on the first third, engraved with trophies, foliage and a crowned eagle in a gilded medallion on each side; back engraved with "Chasseur à Cheval De la Garde Impériale". Scabbard entirely in gilded brass, finely chased, with two bracelets adorned with piaster falls and spider webs on either side; the imperial eagle, in the middle of a cartouche between the two bracelets, has been removed and replaced by a very fine trophy of arms, its trace can still be seen; under the second strap, a lozenge engraved with a flower and, at the bottom, two large chased foliage motifs; all contours engraved with a foliage frieze; cut iron sting; length 102.5 cm. This saber has retained virtually all its gilding. The eagle on the scabbard must have been replaced during the First Restoration. Restoration and this saber was probably used in this way during the Cents-Jours. We can assume that this officer remained loyal to the Emperor: he kept his blade with the eagle. First Empire, First Restoration and Cent-Jours period. Very good condition (blade very slightly warped at the tip). This saber has a slightly more luxurious mounting than the basic model, it is probably a DUC work, perhaps for a higher-ranking officer; the mounting is identical to that of the saber sold, in the same study, on Friday December 6, 2019, n° 89, the blade was by DUC, with the markings: "GARDE IMPÉRIALE" and "CHASSEUR À CHEVAL".
