Beautiful model of a cannon tube, arsenal master piece or foundry model, in carved and waxed wood; 12-piece, Vallière system, based on the drawings in the ordinance of October 7, 1732, it weighed 3,200 pounds, equivalent to the weight of 266 cannonballs; the 12-piece cannon had 8 feet 3 inches (approx. 3.20 m) or 24 calibers of bore length; cannonball diameter 1 line 10 points. The barrel is divided into seven equal parts: the first reinforcement represents two of these parts, the third part gives the length of the second reinforcement, which ends tangentially at the trunnions; the flight comprises the other four parts; the two lugs rest on the second reinforcement; the butt is sculpted with laurel leaves and feathers and, at the point, forms a bird's head. The arms of France, crowned on a background of arms trophies, are carved on the first reinforcement with the sun and the King's motto: "NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR"; the beginning of the flight is decorated with a frieze of flowers and, above it, the double: "L"; the flight bears the arms of Louis Auguste de Bourbon, Duc du Maine, Grand Master of Artillery and, above it, the motto: "ULTIMA. ORACIO REGUM" (ULTIMA RATIO REGUM); at the end, the name of the gun: "LE RÉVEIL"; at the muzzle, a frieze of flowers and lilies. The two trunnions and the dolphin-shaped handles are attached. Overall length 81 cm; breech diameter 97.5 mm; muzzle diameter 69 mm; trunnion diameter 26 mm; caliber 23.5 mm. 18th, 19th century. Good condition.
