Venini chandelier, Italy, ca. 1970's. For BD Lumica (Barcelona). Tears in Murano glass. Brass structure. Some wear on some parts of the brass frame. Measurements: 120 cm (length); 60 cm (upper diameter). Ceiling lamp in Murano glass carved in the form of tears that hang at different heights, drawing in the air a conical and staggered sculpture of great beauty. They hang like stalactites from a golden brass crown formed by rectangular pieces. The zenithal view offers the image of a mottled rosette that provides the visual effect of multiple bubbling drops. The Venini models refer to a chandelier typology popularized by Paolo Venini in the seventies, an important designer specialized in Murano glass, who transformed traditional chandeliers into groundbreaking games of reflections. The piece shown here, given its artistry, occupies a top position within the Venini typology.

GAETANO SCIOLARI, (Italy, 1927-1994). Ceiling lamp, 1970s. Chromed metal tubes. Crystal balls. Measurements: 100 x 35 x 35 cm. This ceiling lamp is an outstanding model of the famous designer Gaetano Sciolari, because all his researches converge in it: futuristic aesthetics, conceptual hybridizations between Art Deco and Space Age... The tubular lampshades cascade down three levels, and its zenithal view offers the image of an attractive minimalist rose window. After an initial training as a film director, followed by a degree in architecture, Gaetano Sciolari took over the management of the family business in Rome, Sciolari Illuminazione, after the death of his father in 1949. The brand began selling lamps in Europe and the United States, and during the 1950s Gaetano began designing for the Italian lighting brand Stilnovo, creating his most famous pieces. His luxurious and futuristic multi-light chandeliers create interesting optical effects and combine shiny and satin metals, such as brass and chromed metal; they became increasingly popular in the United States during the 1970s, years in which Sciolari's style adopted an aesthetic inspired by Art Deco and the Space Age. Founder and president of the Italian Lighting Systems Manufacturers Association, Sciolari is now highly sought after for his collectibles, including the Habitat, Cultura and Futura series.

The work is aesthetically close to the designs of Angelo Gaetano Sciolari, who was one of the Italian designers recognized for his mid-century modern lamps. Born in the early 20th century, Sciolari, the son of a family of Italian illuminators who had been producing lamps since 1892, began designing for Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950s. It was there that he created his most recognized and celebrated work, a series of multi-light chandeliers made of shiny, matte metal, evoking futuristic visions of the dawning space age as is the case with our five-light ceiling chandelier. Luxurious chandelier creations began to gain prominence and popularity in the United States during the 1970s, a decade in which his style began to look toward an Art Deco and Space Age-inspired aesthetic. Photos of the final model. Measurements: 28,7 x 28,7 x 30 cm. Ceiling lamp model PH 3/3, made up of several circular pieces in opal glass, which nest into each other to form a diffuser with a light and aerodynamic design. It was designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen. Danish designer, architect and critic, Poul Henningsen was one of the key figures in Danish cultural life in the interwar period. He studied architecture between 1911 and 1917, but never graduated, as he decided to become an inventor and painter. Nevertheless, he worked as an architect and became one of the most prominent advocates of functionalism. In his career as a designer, his most famous creation was the "PH Artichoke" lamp, a simple lamp that used contrasts of light to avoid glare and create a beautiful aesthetic effect. Its success enabled Henningsen to finance his later work. He is currently represented at the Danish Museum of Art and Design, the MoMA in New York and the Victoria & Albert in London, among many others.

Unknown - Affiche Ancienne Original vintage advertising poster - Strommannchen spricht: Erst gutes licht! / Electricity man says: This is first good light! The poster advertises electric light as clean compared to oil lanterns. The design features a view through a window of a lady standing next to a running water tap in a kitchen lit up a ceiling light and wall light above the cooker, the face and shape on an electric plug of the smiling 'electricity man' next to the stylised lettering on the black border below. Good condition, restored tears and creasing, stain at top right, backed on paper. Country of issue: Germany, designer: Unknown, size (cm): 83.5x59, year of printing: 1920s.

A Fabulous Austrian/Vienna Circa 1900 Brass and Bronze, Gold Patinated, Mistletoe Chandelier modelled as a pendant ball cluster of leafy stems adorned with opaline glass berries and incorporating five light fittings amongst the the offshots. The bunch tied with twisted cord to the branch stub top and measuring approx 18'' (46 cm) in height, 18'' (46 cm) wide.

Werner & Mieth, zugeschrieben - Pair of three-light table candlesticks Fire-gilded bronze/brass, discolored cut glass, white marble. Spirally twisted tube with dense prismatic hanging, crowned by a closed bud. H approx. 73 cm. Berlin, Werner & Mieth, attributed to the 1800s to 1810s. The two Berliners Christian Gottlieb Werner (ca. 1751 - 1831) and Gottfried Mieth (ca. 1761 - ca. 1834) began their careers at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory as modelers and embossers. In 1791, they set up their own business with the idea of a "bronze and art objects factory" and founded a partnership together with the master yellow caster Friedrich Luckau Jr. The workshop was located in Leipziger Straße; in 1801 they moved into a building in Jägerstraße. The special quality of the products was aimed at an international, aristocratic and wealthy clientele. The company was organized according to the English model of division of labour, with cost-saving pre-production of individual parts. The buying public could order from the catalogs or order an individual piece. Werner & Mieth's fame was due to the custom-made products for the Prussian court, which were at the beginning of their career. Wilhelmine von Lichtenau, the mistress of King Frederick William II, had already ordered chandeliers and bronze objects in the spring of 1793 and introduced the two entrepreneurs to the court. This was followed by commissions for the royal palaces Unter den Linden and the Winter Chambers in Charlottenburg Palace. Werner & Mieth were later able to gain Hans Christian Genelli (1763 - 1823) and Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781 - 1841) as designers, eventually maintaining warehouses in Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Breslau and London and also delivering to St. Petersburg.
