Beautiful flintlock shotgun, by Jean-Baptiste Thomas in Versailles, double barrel in table, in blued iron, gold damascened with thunderbolts decorated with trophies and foliage and marked on the band: "CANON TORDU" and adorned, between the two words, with a flaming grenade, each thunderbolt is hallmarked in a gold-backed oval, forming a medallion: "M L - L D" surmounted by a star, gilded lights, silver sight surrounded by gilded rays, 16 mm caliber, 95 cm long; ice-polished round-body locks, signed: "J. BTE THOMAS" and "À VERSAILLES", swan-necked hammers with espalet, scroll basins, pebble springs; ice-polished, cut and chased iron fittings; walnut stock, carved with a rose at the rear of the breech and foliage around the fittings, finely checkered grip; horn-tipped dewlap ramrod; overall length 136 cm.
Circa 1795/1800. Very good condition.
THOMAS Jean-Baptiste, harquebusier in Saint-Étienne, he certainly had a depot in Versailles, 1780/1810. He exhibited in Paris in 1806.
