Beautiful officer's flintlock pistol from the Manufacture de Versailles, octagonal barrel very slightly blunderbussed, bearing a groove for aiming on the first part of the upper side, the breech which was blued is fitted, on the left side, with a screw for cleaning the platinum-lined light, barrel stamped, on each inclined side, with the bar: "BOUTET" in a rectangle on a gold background, signed in gold letters: "BOUTET" and "À VERSAILLES" and numbered: "186", breech and muzzle decorated with a wide gold fillet, that of the end carries an adjustable front sight, length 24 cm, caliber 12 mm rifled hair; breech tail also bearing a throat and a fixed frog; flat-bodied plate decorated with grooves at the rear, signed: "Boutet à Versailles", swan-neck hammer, scroll bassinet, hammer clamp numbered: "2", adjustable trigger tail; plain and cut iron fittings, the two counterplate pieces are cut and finely engraved with fleurons, foliage and a cartouche with two houses, oval cap nail chased with facets; walnut stock with short shaft, squared grip, the ebony cap-forming end is cut with a wave-form motif; overall length 37.5 cm. Late First Empire period. Very good condition. BOUTET Nicolas Noël, born 1761 † in 1833, famous director of the Versailles factory, from year II to 1818; he worked mainly on weapons of reward, weapons of honor and luxury weapons, both bladed and firearms; the latter have achieved worldwide renown, thanks to their quality of execution and the originality of their models. He had a manufacturing depot in Paris, 1236 rue de la Loi (rue de Richelieu) in Year XI, then 87 rue de Richelieu in 1807; in 1823, as a private harquebusier, he was found at 23 rue des Filles Saint-Thomas, where he worked until 1831. He had a son, Pierre Nicolas, born in 1786 † in 1816, which sometimes explains the inscription: "BOUTET et fils".
