Pair of sculptures representing Saints "ALLEGORIE DEUX SAINTES" in gilded wood and polychrome. Original gilding
The first features a female figure with face raised to heaven, hands clasped in prayer, wearing a superb draped veil.
The second sculpture, with face downwards, places one hand on her heart, and the other hand open towards the horizon.
Height: 180 cm
Width : 60 cm and 70 cm
Depth: 50 cm and 60 cm
Some damage, finger defects and minor missing gilding.

As opposed to the common, true allegory, which is concerned with language, the notion of allegory of facts is introduced, in order to assign a higher truth to signs and miracles of divine origin by showing how "historical events prefigure others".
An allegory is always made up of a "conjunction of symbols": an isolated symbol is not an allegory.
Here we find the posture of the bust, the position of the hands, the direction of the gaze.
