Description

A bronze statuette depicting the Lion and the boar (Aesop), France, 20th century.

Mount on a marble base, the foot with signature: "A. Barye". Reproduction after the example in the Metropolitan Museum. On a warm summer day the lion and the boar coincidentally meet at a well to drink. They end up in a deadly fight but decide to finish their battle when seeing vultures in the distance. It is better to befriend someone than both to fall prey to others. Those who fight for something are often observed by others hoping to take advantage out of the situation.
