Ary BITTER (188 3-1973) Bookend with elephants Two bronzes with brown patina. One signed Ary Bitter Sc and bearing the mark Susse Frères Editeurs Paris in a cartouche on the base. H.28 cm and H. 17 cm Ary Bitter, a native of Marseille, entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1902 where he trained with Ernest-Louis Barrias while working in the studio of Jules Coutan. From 1910, he participates in the Salon des Artistes Français where he wins the gold medal in 1924. The house Susse publishes twenty-nine models of Bitter during the interwar period.
