LEON ZEYTLINE (Moscou 1885-1962 Paris)

Venetian Splendors Large oil on canvas signed lower right Published and illustrated in the artist's latest Catalogue Raisonné by Nebojsa Calic and Pierre Zoghbi, November 2017 under number 449. Provenance : Private collection, Paris. Dimensions: 100 x 73 cm Painter of Russian origin born in France, family circumstances forced his family to return to Moscow where he began his studies at the age of 15 at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. After many trips throughout Europe, he returned to France and decided to settle there permanently. Dazzled by the French capital, the young painter decided to make Paris one of his central themes. He devoted many paintings to the city in all its states with the characteristics of the Russian School and a luminosity borrowed from the French impressionists. The sea, boats, Venice and of course Moscow were also part of the themes that he treated with talent. Like postcards or newspaper engravings, Zeytline's paintings celebrate the modernity of the emerging 20th century, the Belle Epoque, the Roaring Twenties and the Art-Nouveau. Carnavalet Museums Paris, Hamburg and Mulhouse Museums.
