1977 PEUGEOT 504 TI

Complete historical file with purchase invoice More than 20 000 € of restoration invoices Second hand, rare condition on the market French registration title Chassis n° 2720246 The beginnings of the Peugeot 504 were chaotic! The new top-of-the-range car of the Sochaux brand was indeed supposed to be presented in June 1968, but certain events in May postponed its release to September... However, this new representative of the Lion brand was expected. It is indeed only the 5th publicly available model built by the brand of Sochaux since the end of World War II. With it, the bourgeois and provincial clientele went upmarket. The project, launched in 1963, resulted in a car with more generous dimensions, a more powerful 10 HP engine and, the height of modernity, four independent wheels and disc brakes on all four wheels. For the styling, Peugeot again called upon the Italian Pininfarina, but the project was reviewed in depth by the in-house styling office, headed by Paul Bouvot. The top-of-the-range sedan «with Sophia Loren’s eyes», according to Pininfarina’s managers, was so well received that it was even voted European Car of the Year 1969! History was made, and this robust Peugeot was manufactured until 2005 (in Africa), with more than 3.7 million examples of all versions combined. The example that illustrates these pages is the top of the range 504 sedan, as it is a high-performance TI. The car was bought new in 1977 by the current owner’s father-in-law, and the very complete file that accompanies the car even includes the purchase invoice from Ets Michel, «Concessionnaire des Automobiles Peugeot» in Brunoy (91), the stamped maintenance booklet and even the warranty card! The five-digit odometer showed just over 11,000 km on the day of our test drive, the car most likely having driven 111,000 km. If its maintenance was serious, and its life quiet, especially since its first owner had retired to Gourdon (46), in the Quercy region, the current owner, who is not content with the odd one out, decided to carry out a complete restoration which cost him more than 20,000 € (invoices attached to the file). Everything was redone in the rules of art (bodywork, upholstery, running gear, brakes, engine, gearbox, axle...) without counting. The car has not been driven much since then, and has only two body defects. If you are looking for a Peugeot 504, this incredible TI with Panama Blue leather interior, originally equipped with a sunroof, and more recently with period Dunlop accessory wheels is made for you...
