1958 PANHARD Dyna Z16 Grand Standing

No reserve Grand Standing finish Very good condition Interesting colors French registration title Chassis n° 1203471 After the war, Panhard, the old French brand, started to produce simple, robust and efficient cars. After the Dyna X and its very Louis XV baroque style, the Z was introduced in June 1953. With its very round face and elegant Duralinox bodywork, the newborn car had a revolutionary Cx for the time of 0.26 and exceptional performance for a car with such a small displacement (851 cc twin-cylinder). It consumed only 6 liters per 100 km while carrying 6 passengers... The recipe is ideal for commercial success, but the production costs, especially for the Duralinox body, were underestimated, and management (Citroën took a 25% stake in the brand in 1955, and then 45% in 1958) decided to go all-steel in 1958, with an extra weight of more than 150 kg. In the meantime, Renault had replied with the well thought-out and inexpensive Dauphine, and Panhard had to develop its range. In 1959, the new PL 17 replaced the Dyna Z, of which 139,065 were produced (sedans). The Dyna Z16 that we present was put on the road on October 21, 1958 and has today a little over 57,000 km on the odometer, which could be its original mileage. The car was repainted in its original color, a beautiful aqua green, while its interior is still the same as when it left the factory, with two-tone leatherette (Grand Standing finish) and woven carpets (under the rubber ones). Apart from a few blemishes on the bodywork and cracked door seals, the steering wheel and some interior plastics are cracked. The mechanical set works very well, as do the brakes, and the Michelin XSX radial tires have not been used much. The engine, an M5 Aerodyne, works well, as does the gearbox. This Dyna Z, in its nice original color combination, will delight the experienced Panhardist as well as the 1950s peoples car lover The four cars that follow are from the collection of an «enlightened» amateur of beautiful French classics and peoples’ cars. In his garage, and in his heart, Panhard cars have a special place. The chubby mass-produced sedans have rubbed shoulders with successful race cars as rare and exclusive bodied motorcars. It must be said that Panhard, whose slogan was «the mechanics of a thousand victories», was able to create in the immediate post-war period an incredible air-cooled flat-twin engine with a small displacement (less than 1,000 cc), incredibly powerful and durable, which powered, in addition to production sedans, elegant and endearing creations. Our man, for whom each of his cars had to be able to go from Paris to Corsica by freeway and back, without stopping, has now decided to refocus his collection, based on the premise that a car that doesn’t run, gets damaged. In addition to the two standard Dyna and PL 17, he has entrusted us with a rare and desirable Dyna cabriolet, and an inimitable Dyna Junior restored without cost limit. An opportunity for convinced Panhardists, or amateurs of extra-ordinary French cars, to discover four endearing cars of the firm of Quai d’Ivry, proposed at very reasonable estimates.
