1960 JAGUAR MK II 3.8

Same owner for 17 years Exceptional performance and behavior An old car modernized to drive French historic registration title Chassis n° T211205BW After its numerous successes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Jaguar brand is in full effervescence and offers various models. The idea of grafting the XK engine under the hood of a sedan quickly tempted William Lyons: in 1959, the MK II was unveiled at the London Motor Show to replace the MK I, presented two years earlier with the 3.4L engine. It was the fastest production sedan in the world at the time and proved it. Bernard Consten won the Tour de France Automobile three times between 1960 and 1963 with a model equipped with the 3.8-liter engine. It turns out to be a real sports sedan because of its noble mechanics, with a design of great elegance and typical British charm. Certainly the most appreciated sedan by collectors for its numerous qualities, it is a great classic on the collector car market. The example presented in these pages is a MK II 3.8 delivered new in the United States and put on the road on the 15th of July 1960. Initially in Old English White with red leather upholstery, it is equipped with a Borg Wagner automatic gearbox. In France for many years, it was purchased by its current owner seventeen years ago from a collector in the Reims area. It is then in a decent condition but will require important overhauls before being able to find its former glory. A complete restoration began with the bodywork being stripped bare. The engine is replaced by a 3.8L block with the original cylinder head and the four-speed mechanical gearbox plus overdrive is replaced by a fivespeed Gretrag gearbox providing a real driving pleasure. All the running gear, brakes, shock absorbers and suspensions will be replaced by new parts and a modern electric power steering has been installed. Aesthetically, the car is repainted in a very elegant light green metallic color that is close to Aston Martin’s Almond Green with a very well-done navy blue leather upholstery. The most discerning enthusiasts will immediately notice that the seats have been replaced by Jaguar XJ-6 seats with a very similar design but with the advantage of being adjustable. In fact, this car has been greatly improved to ensure impeccable handling, top-notch performance and optimal comfort. Purists looking for a car with a strict original configuration, don’t bother; you are in the presence of a car capable of covering miles without batting an eyelid, with the elegance and distinction of one of the most beautiful sedans produced. In 2012, its owner took part in a rally from Chile to Argentina and since then in many other events organized by the Amicale Jaguar. No matter what purists might say, this car is surprising of efficiency, and is a real treat as it excels in all areas. Sold with a reconditioned period mechanical box and its original seat frames, it will be the delight of a collector wishing to replace an uncommunicative modern car by a Jaguar sedan with discreet charm and very current performance.
