1953 LANCIA AURELIA B22

No reserve Eligible for the Mille Miglia Only 877 units produced First production car powered by a V6 engine No registration title Chassis n° B22 - 1278 Since its creation in 1906, Lancia has always demonstrated a great independence of spirit and a challenge to the conventions that would define the brand for decades. Presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1950 and produced until 1958, the Aurelia is the perfect illustration of the qualities mentioned above. Establishing a post-war Lancia tradition, the car was named after a Roman road: the Via Aurelia, linking Rome to Pisa. This model embodies the top of the range of the prestigious Italian brand at a time when it competed with the highest European standards for production quality and avantgardism of the technical solutions retained. In the Aurelia, comfort, luxury and driving flexibility are privileged qualities. Designed under the direction of engineer Vittorio Jano, the Aurelia occupies an important place in history as it was the very first production car to be powered by a V6. It is a central camshaft engine, unique in its kind at that time. The B10 type only has an engine displacement of 1754cc, while the B22, which interests us, appeared in 1952, has a displacement of 1991cc thanks to an increase in the bore and stroke, to 72 mm and 81.5 mm respectively. The power obtained is 90 hp at 5,000 rpm for a maximum speed of 160 km/h: fully satisfactory performance for a touring sedan. In addition to its V6, it has been equipped with an innovative gearbox and drum brakes mounted inside the vehicle. The Lancia Aurelia will also be the first car to be equipped with radial tires as standard. First, Michelin X 165SR400. Then, the sport models will be equipped with 165HR400 Pirelli Cinturato. The Lancia Aurelia was available in several versions: a sedan version (B10, B12, B15, B21, B22), a sporty version, the B20 GT, which will obtain many racing successes, the glamorous and very popular B24 Spider and Convertible, as well as special chassis (B50 to B60).  For Lancia enthusiasts, the Aurelia is considered one of the three greatest models of the brand. The other two are the Lambda and the Aprilia. Our Aurelia, with its 90 hp V6 at 5,000 rpm, its special camshaft and its Weber doublebody carburetor, belongs to the first series, of which only 877 were produced between 1952 and 1953. The documentation we have at our disposal mentions its original black exterior color and a first registration on the 19th of June 1953 in the name of a certain Ghezzani. This Aurelia was acquired two years later by Leopoldo Ciglia who kept it until 1961, when it was sold to Lida Tinghi. It will know two more owners before joining the Anna Lisa collection. This very interesting sedan without pillars will allow its future owner to compete in the Mille Miglia, where the model was entered at the time. It must be said that its magnificent V6 exemplary in terms of technicality and performance...
