1949 TRIUMPH TR 2000

No reserve First Triumph roadster of the post-war period 2 + 2 seats High quality restoration No registration title Chassis n° TR.1151 Like all other car companies, Triumph started the post-war period by marketing front-wheel drive cars. This did not prevent Standard Triumph from working on the future. In particular, it was looking for a sports car that would stay cheap to buy and build, fun to drive and, above all, that could pump money into the company. This is not an exceptional approach. Jaguar and MG were doing the same thing and Sir John Black thinks that there is a place between the XK 120 and the TD. So we discover the 1800 Roadster, unveiled in 1946. Designed in a charming, slightly old-fashioned style by Franck Callaby, it is distinguished by its folding windscreen and its «mother-in-law seat», carved into its stern. As it should be, it has huge bouncing front fenders, an imposing chrome radiator and a body with aluminum panels that cover a tubular steel chassis with independent front suspension. In 1948, it became 2000 Roadster with the introduction of the Standard Vanguard 4-cylinder engine with a larger displacement: 2088 cc instead of the previous 1776 cc. With its overhead valves and inverted Solex carburetor, this engine extrapolated from the one that equipped pre-war Jaguars develops 68 hp. The careers of the Triumph 1800 and 2000 Roadster will be discreet with a total of 4,501 units produced of which about 2,000 units of the 2000 version. The car was fully restored in the late 1980s and features an interesting color scheme: crème white/beige hood and red leather interior. Originally, it is likely that the car was released in a characteristic gold shade. The genuine burr walnut dashboard looks good, as well as the soft top and the interior which have also been redone. The engine, unboxed, also seems to have been rebuilt in the 1980s. This is an interesting project to restart an uncommon car, even on the other side of the Channel.
