No reserve Iconic sports car from the 1920’s Original engine Nice patina French registration title Sold without MOT Chassis n° OH9821 For the sportsman of the late 1920s, the Lagonda is the archetype of the fast tourer, comfortable enough to consider a long trip on new European roads. In 1898 a certain Wilbur Gunn, an American born in Springfield, Ohio in 1853, founded the Lagonda firm, based in England. Named after the Indian name of a river near Springfield, he first manufactured motorcycles and before being joined, by a certain Arthur H. Cranmer, motor tricycles. Like most pioneers, Gunn and Cranmer soon added a fourth wheel and began building much-appreciated buggies for a new clientele. One of these cars won the 1910 Moscow-St. Petersburg Rally, opening new opportunities within the Russian market. Wilbur Gunn disappeared in 1920, but A. H. Cranmer kept the technical direction of the company and directed production towards more powerful and sporty cars. At the beginning of the 1920s, the firm employed between 500 and 800 people, for an annual production of 400 to 700 vehicles. The emblematic 2 Litre, presented in 1925, was produced in about 1,440 units until 1931. This car started its life as a supercharged 2-liter. The writing on the chassis plate confirms it, since 2B indicates a supercharged car. But if the car has its original engine, its supercharger has disappeared, and it is now equipped with a simple carburetor. As for the T2 designation, it indicates a factory Tourer body. If the original factory records have disappeared and the first owner is unknown, the English Lagonda club has all the ownership history since 1949, when the car was bought by Lieutenant Burvill, from Havant in Hampshire. In 1974 it was registered in the name of Mr. Levy, in Paris: 401 XT 75, a plate which it still bears. The car was restored at great expense in the 1980’s, and today shows a superb patina. Note that the engine, not blocked, has to be restarted, and that the left rear and spare wheels have no tires (bare rims).
