1973 VOLVO P 1800 ES

Rare Cypress Green color, available on final models One of the last P1800s manufactured Vehicle running but to be restored French historic registration title Chassis n° 0008043 If the first Volvo was released in 1926, it was not until the end of the 1950’s that the Swedish manufacturer decided to study a car, if not a sports car, at least a Grand Touring car, of medium category, comfortable and durable, in accordance with the reputation of the brand, with the objective of rejuvenating its brand image... and its customers. The study of the future coupe is subcontracted to Italy, at Frua, and it is finally the drawing of Pelle Peterson, the son of a Volvo consultant recently hired at Frua, which is retained. The P1800 was presented in January 1960 at the Brussels Motor Show, then in April in New York. The cars, initially built at Jensen, were then assembled at the Torslanda factory in Sweden. Production lasted until June 1972, with 39,414 Volvo P1800s and 1800 Ss (for Sweden) and 1800 Es (injection) built. In August 1971, the coupe was joined by a newcomer, the Jaktvagn, or shooting brake in Swedish. This sublime shooting brake, named 1800 ES, still studied by Frua, will be built for only two years, 8,077 units until June 1973, only in injection version with the 2l type B20 engine. The P1800 ES that we present is one of the 5,007 shooting brakes built, and one of the very last ones to come off the production line. Our example has the serial number 8043, while the last P1800 to be sold has the number 8077. It benefits from the sublime and rare Cypress Green code 110 color, combined with a tan interior. It was imported from the US in 2014, and registered in France in the process. The car passed the technical control at the end of July 2021 (CT favorable), but nevertheless presents numerous defects (non-conforming redone floors, blacked-out undercarriages, chewed-up bodywork, badly repaired left front fender, perforating corrosion points). In addition to some body defects, some interior fittings are missing and some instruments are not working (water thermometer and tachometer in particular). On the other hand, the seats and the carpet look good, and the engine and the gearbox (with overdrive) work well. This is a car that would suit a brave amateur who could do the necessary work in the long run, while enjoying this interesting Volvo after a serious revision.
