Ex-Dovaz / Sleeping beauties collection Engine restarted Incredible patina No registration title Chassis n° 162117 The Lincoln brand, symbol of American high-end automotive production was founded in 1917 by a former Cadillac general manager, initially to build airplane engines, in the midst of World War I. The factory switched to automobiles in 1921, and and instantly began building some of the most refined automobiles on the American market, largely inspired by Cadillacs however. Several U.S. presidents were driven around in Lincolns, which quickly became the «cars of presidents”. In financial difficulties, the brand was bought by a man named Henry Ford, who put his son Edsel in charge. In 1933, all Lincolns were powered by V12s, and the brand became the official supplier to the White House! At the same time, Edsel had a car built for his own use, which was soon included in the catalog, called the Continental. This first series was built until 1948. It was the last V12-powered car to be produced by a major American car manufacturer. This Lincoln was registered to Claude Dovaz in Paris in December 1966. If this name sounds familiar, it is because he was the brother of the famous oenologist Michel Dovaz, who amassed a considerable number of beautiful cars, both pre- and post-war, in his property of Villemaréchal. His collection of sleeping beauties was the subject of a photo report in the early 1980s that went around the world. The Bugattis, Ferraris and other Alfa Romeos on the property were looted, before being exhibited and sold in the 1990s, while a handful of cars, including this Lincoln Coupe (and another Cabriolet model) remained in storage at the Château de Bagat, in the Lot. They were finally sold in the early 2000s for charity. The Lincoln Coupe is still in its original, somewhat advanced condition, but its touching patina could perhaps be preserved if the future buyer is content with a serious mechanical restoration. Note that the engine was restarted a few years ago, without any suspicious noise or smoke. This is certainly one of the last opportunities to acquire one of these legendary sleeping beauties collected by the inimitable Michel Dovaz.
