Elegant color combination Remarkable condition Rising star Belgian registration title Chassis n° 0005668 Engine n° 0009241 Antechamber of one of the most important world championships in motorsport, Formula 2 was a formidable battleground for the brave drivers seeking to join Formula 1. At the end of the 1960s, Ferrari was involved in several disciplines and took a close interest in both championships. In 1967, Il Commendatore, Enzo Ferrari, decided to enter a single-seater in F2 with the V6 engine that his son Dino had been working on before his premature death in 1956. Obliged to produce 500 engines quickly to allow its homologation, and unable to assemble so many Dino 206 at such a rate, Maranello resorted to asking Fiat to build the engine in large series, and to develop a car capable of accommodating it. Fiat then designed two cars: the first, a spider designed by Pininfarina, then the second, presented a few months later in 1967, a coupe designed by Bertone. Powered by the 2.0-liter Ferrari V6, each had a very different feel. The Spider, short and light, had a sporty and nervous character, while the GT, heavier and with a longer wheelbase, was more comfortable and predictable. Slightly restyled in 1969, these two automotive icons each saw their engine re-bored to 2.4-liter and their power increased by 20 hp, culminating at 180 hp. More powerful and with much-improved handling thanks to the independent rear wheels, they were nevertheless sold in smaller numbers than their predecessors despite a longer career. The example we present to you today is one of the 6,068 coupes built, and one of the 2,398 in the 2.4L version. Of Italian origin, this Dino, which would have had three Italian owners before its current Belgian owner, is absolutely gorgeous in its Nocciola Metallizato livery, perfectly matching its cream cloth interior redone in 2016. Completely restored in the 2010s from a bare body, it is now in a very good condition, both cosmetically and mechanically. Our road test allowed us to witness the dynamism of its melodious Ferrari V6, while a meticulous examination revealed some very small bodywork defects, notably at the level of the trunk, a damaged steering wheel arm, or a seam that dropped at the level of an armrest and the gear lever bellows to be taken back. Small details that will be easily taken over by its future owner to make this desirable Dino in concours condition.
