1960 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C1

Prepared for historic regularity events Iconic model Winner of the Gstaad Classic French historic registration title Chassis n° 00867S101298 Under the impulse of the European sports cars of the early 1950s, the General Motors group presents one of the most emblematic models of the American production, the Chevrolet Corvette. The C1 was the first production car with a fiberglass body at the time. The highly innovative design was taken directly from the EX-122 Roadster concept car presented in January 1953 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. The car was powered by a 3.9 liter Chevrolet inline 6-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. Unfortunately, this Blue Flame block did not develop the power expected by its users, and the commercial success was not instantaneous. In order to correct these problems, a new engine is proposed in 1955. It is a V8, an architecture that will be used on future generations. Coupled with an automatic gearbox or a 3-speed manual gearbox, this V8 with a displacement of 4.3 l develops 195 hp. It is really in 1956 that the range is equipped with engines powerful enough for the market standards. The 4.3-liter V8 is offered in three versions developing 210, 225, or 240 hp. The performances are in clear progress just like the sales which follow the same evolution. A mechanical 4-speed gearbox was then offered in 1957. Displacement and power continued to increase until the model was replaced in 1963. Beyond the performances, the Corvette myth is also born from the exceptional looks of this first generation. The C1 is characterized by a unique line drawing some inspirations from the aeronautical world, its futuristic dashboard or its panoramic windshield. Its bodywork has undergone several stylistic evolutions, notably with the appearance in 1958 of a front end with four headlights. The car we present to you was put on the road in 1960, and thus has this very successful front end. The collector who currently owns this car bought it in 2008, and has been using it ever since. This Corvette was prepared to participate in regularity rallies, and successes were quick to come, as evidenced by a victory at the Gstaad Classic organized by Peter Auto in 2009. Today, the car is still as powerful and exciting to drive as ever for those who dare to get behind the wheel. Equipped with buckets and harnesses, a roll bar behind the seats and a kill switch, it is prepared to compete in regularity events with a car that is rarely found on the entry list. The car has been meticulously maintained by a mechanic, and starts at the first turn of the key, before playing its vocals. From a cosmetic point of view, the car looks good, despite a few cracks, which are quite logical on a fiberglass body.
