Description

MAGRITTE (René). (1898-1867), Belgian surrealist painter. "Ideas and feelings", autograph manuscript signed with two pages in-4° anopistograph. Beautiful text: "If the painter is oriented to mystery, he holds painting as a means of expression to be illusory. What idea or feeling - worth communicating to his fellow men - could the painter express by painting a figure holding a scale? "It seems to me that the art of painting really consists in representing, by means of its own resources, the riches and precisions we see in the world: trees, skies, stones, objects, people, etc. They are chosen and brought together in images according to the logic of mystery." A priori this text has been edited, but we could not find where! (traces of folds).
