Description

Reliquary bust depicting the head of St. Polycarp in embossed silver, partially gilded, with enameled and painted parts

Presence of an noble coat of arms, whose affiliation has not been identified, perhaps a confraternity. It shows Perpignan marks for the XIV century, and the mark of the goldsmith, possibly Soler Simo, active in Perpignan between 1346 and 1356. The reliquary was submitted to a diagnostic analysis by the University of Pavia on April 26, 2021, which agrees with the proposed dating given the analysis of the metal composition and the nature and composition of the color finishes, as well as the vitreous enamels present in the reproduction of the noble coat of arms. Dimensions incl. base 11.8x11.8x7 in.
