Set of 7 numbered watercolors, some annotated in pencil 32 x 23 cm. Child of the Butte Montmartre, Alfred Choubrac is a student of Pils at the Ecole des Beaux-arts and exhibits at the Salon from 1865 to 1895. In 1875 he created his first posters for theatre shows and café concerts. With Jules Chéret, he is one of the pioneers of a genre that reached its peak during the Belle-Epoque. Following the example of Alfred Grévin and in a very similar style, he designed the costumes for sketches that were interspersed between ballets and pantomimes for the Folies Bergères, the Châtelet theatre, the Opéra Comique and the Moulin Rouge. These interludes, which were not yet called sketches, highlighted the grace and comic or acrobatic talents of the characters.
