Description

MOCHICA, Pérou, 450-750 ap. J.-C.

Stirrup vase, 20 x 12 x 17.5 cm. Polychrome stirrup vase representing a jaguar. This jaguar is recognizable by its sharp fangs and its muzzle. Its large ear surmounts its mouth. Its eyes, muzzle and mouth are finely worked. The jaguar is threatening, as if ready to pounce on its prey. An orange-red color is present on all the vase except on the ears and the fangs. This brings a particularly real relief to this work. The stirrup handle surmounts the head creating a harmonious bridge, with a rounded neck
