Description

Hausman René/Saki and Zunie. Original drawing illustrating the couple of characters of the beginnings of this master of the Belgian comics. India ink and watercolor, signed and dated 1987. Rare collector's item. TBE+. Format A4 René Hausman (1936-2016) meets Raymond Macherot at 18 years old and gives up his studies to start drawing, illustrating advertisements in the local newspaper and making pictures for school films. During his military service, he begins a collaboration with the weekly newspaper LE MOUSTIQUE. In 1957, he illustrates the first adventures of "Saki et Zunie" in "Spirou", on a scenario of Yvan Delporte. However, it is in another field than comics that he will become known during twenty years. For the special spring issue of SPIROU, in 1958, he improvised an illustration on the animal kingdom, then a second one... followed by hundreds of others! The Dupuis publishing house opened prestigious collections for him: "Terre Entière" ("La Forêt secrète", "Le Roman de Renart", "Bestiaire insolite", "Les Contes de Perrault" or the two volumes of "Fables de La Fontaine"), "La Comédie Animale" and "Le Grand Bestiaire". A man of great appetite and strong constitution, Hausman is convinced that comics nourish his artist better than illustration. The development of a graphic sector more free than the traditional series for all seduces him. From 1976, he realized some gently erotic fables for FLUIDE GLACIAL; these will be completely taken up in 1991 by Dupuis in the anthology "Allez coucher, sales bêtes !", completed by some unpublished ideas of Yann. After a noticed passage of the charming "Zunie" in LE TROMBONE ILLUSTRE, Hausman approaches the big sagas of heroin-fantasy with his new heroine "Laiyna", on scenarios of Pierre Dubois: "La Forteresse de pierre" (1985), then "Le Crépuscule des elfes". When "Aire Libre" will welcome these two episodes, he will illustrate for this prestigious collection two scenarios of Yann, "Les Trois cheveux blancs" and "Le Prince des écureuils", built to his disproportion. An illustrator with astonishing atmospheres and colors, a drawer of full-figured brown beauties and expressive trognes, a champion of nature and animals, Hausman lives in the countryside and is passionate about popular culture.
