Paire d’appliques

in bronze with a green and golden patina, the shaft in term formed by winged Victories or Renomées surmounting a base in sheath decorated with thyrse and crown. They rest on spheres and hold four leafy arms forming a light arm decorated with masks and griffins. Early 20th century, Empire style after a model by Claude Galle Height : 58 cm Bearing on the back the numbers 8141 and RE 7c 303 Worn Claude Galle delivered for the Emperor's Palace in Compiègne in 1808 "a pair of arms with winged figure and sheath on a four-light ball" model from which our sconces come. A similar pair, delivered by the upholsterer Darrac for the apartments of the Empress at the Palais de Rohan in Strasbourg, is kept at the Mobilier National. The success of the model was such that it was also made into candelabras.
