Paire d'APPLIQUES

in chased and silvered bronze, the oval plates decorated with masks of bearded men, fauns or satyrs wearing a crown of acanthus leaves from which emerge three console uprights forming light arms. The whole is decorated with gadroons. Late 17th-early 18th century, after a model attributed to André-Charles Boulle H : 23 - W : 40 - D : 26 cm Worn This model of sconces decorated with a bearded face of a satyr, is listed under various variants, some with gadroon decoration, with two or three arms of light. The Carnavalet museum keeps a pair of sconces with two lights coming from the Henriette Bouvier legacy, which was exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in 1960 in Paris, Louis XIV, Fastes et décors, n°202-203 and illustrated in Connaissance des Arts, Le XVIIème siècle, Paris, 1958 , p.118.
