It was the poet Armand GODOY (1880-1964) who took the initiative to have a monument erected to the memory of José-Maria de Heredia in the Luxembourg gardens. This monument, with the bust of Heredia by Victor Ségoffin, was inaugurated on October 17, 1925. In his speech, Jean Richepin thanked Armand Godoy, "also born in Cuba, like Heredia, and a poet in the French language [...] It is thanks to the tireless zeal of Armand Godoy that we have been able to add to the collaboration of the French, that of the Cubans and Latin Americans, and to raise the sum necessary to erect this monument, as well as a replica which will be erected in Santiago de Cuba, the birthplace of the great writer. The first volume contains all the subscription forms, lists of subscribers, letters and telegrams, invoices and accounting documents, etc, plus 15 original photographs, and the plan of the monument. There are, in particular, numerous letters from the de Heredia family, many letters from Cubans, letters and receipts from the sculptor Victor SÉGOFFIN (1867-1925, who died the same day as the inauguration of his bust) and the architect Chrétien-Lalanne, and various personalities: Maurice Bedel, Auguste Blaizot, A. de Bustamante, Édouard Champion, Louis Conard, Arturo Diaz, René Doumic, R. de Flers, Francisco Garcia Calderon, Gabriel Hanotaux, Hélène Heredia-Doumic, Gustave Kahn, Georges Lecomte, Joaquin Nin, Ernest Prévost, Henri and Marie de Régnier, Jean Renouard, Jean Richepin, Jules Supervielle, Eugène Vallée, etc. The second volume brings together all of the press clippings relating to this event (152 pp.).
