Rare pocket watch circa 1852, with the portrait of Prince Jerome Bonaparte (1784-1860), Marshal of France and President of the Senate. Case in yellow gold 750 thousandths numbered 1775 and 12/52, polychrome enamelled gold cover with the painted portrait of Jerome Bonaparte, younger brother of Napoleon, former king of Westphalia, carrying the plate of the Legion of Honour, the Military Medal, as well as the plate of the royal order of Westphalia. In the background, the Dôme des Invalides can be seen behind a purple curtain. Miniature signed lower left "H. Steiner in Paris". Mechanical hand-wound movement with Breguet spiral escapement. Gross weight: 67.96 g. D. 4.3 cm. Provenance - Probably offered around 1853 by Prince Jerome Bonaparte (1784-1860), president of the Senate, to Joachim Charles Napoleon Clary (1803-1856), son of Etienne François Clary (1757-1823). - His son Joseph Adolphe Clary (1837-1877). - His daughter Louise Eugénie Joséphine Clary (1872-1963). - His son Edmond Petit de Beauverger (1899-1993), ambassador and member of the Honorary Committee of the Souvenir Napoléonien. - Then by descent. History Joachim Charles Napoleon Clary, nephew of the Queens of Spain and Sweden, wives of King Joseph and Bernadotte, was called to the Senate on 31 December 1852, and sat, until his death, in the dynastic majority. Abraham-Louis Perrelet, born in 1729 in Switzerland, is a genius watchmaker, inventor of the first automatic movement in 1777. He was always extremely innovative in his approach to watchmaking. His grandson Louis-Fréderic Perrelet, born in 1783, took over the factory at the beginning of the 19th century and, in the same spirit as his grandfather, continued the family's watchmaking innovations. As honorary proof of his European reputation and his talent, Louis-Frédéric Perrelet, in addition to the many gold medals he received, was elevated to the rank of Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1834.
