A RARE BLACK AND GOLD-LACQUERED KOBAKO AND COVER WITH SHIMAZU MONS Japan, 17th-18th century, early Edo period (1615-1868) Of rounded square form, the domed cover decorated in gold hiramaki-e with a central Shimazu mon surrounded by leafy scrolling vines against a roiro ground, the motif repeated on the sides of the box, the interior with roiro, the box and cover with heavy silver mounts. SIZE 6.2 x 8.4 x 8.3 cm Condition: Good condition with old wear and few small chips to base. Provenance: From a Canadian private collection.
