A CONVOLUT OF EIGHT CERAMIC ITEMS

A CONVOLUT OF EIGHT CERAMIC ITEMS China, Ming Dynasty (1386-1644) to Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). A fine lot consisting of eight charming ceramic items: one Qingbai porcelain cosmetic box and cover, one small peach-shape ceramic water dropper, one celadon vase, one miniature ceramic jar, one Jian stoneware tea bowl and three small celadon porcelain dishes. The cosmetic box with an interior opened to a flowerhead borne on curved leafy stems interspersed with three miniature cups, covered in a transparent greyish-blue crackled glaze. The small water dropper with a gentle, C-shaped handle and slender spout, molded to each side of spout and handle with leaves and covered in a celadon crackled glaze of whitish hue. The celadon vase of baluster shape rising into a slender neck with everted rim, molded with vertical ribs to the lower body and covered entirely with celadon, crackled glaze. The miniature jar of compressed globular shape and two tiny handles applied to the short cylindrical neck, covered with a brownish glaze stopping at the base. The stoneware bowl with steeply sloping sides rising from a short foot and curving inwards slightly at the channeled rim, covered in a thick layer of brown and black glaze stopping unevenly short above the foot, where it shows characteristic teardrops. Three small dishes with shallow rounded sides, covered with a lustrous pale celadon glaze in the interior and a whitish glaze to the underside, two of them with a mark to the underside. Condition: The water dropper with visible cracks and flakes to the glaze, one small dish with a hairline crack to the side, the cosmetic box with a reparation to the cover rim, otherwise fine condition with firing imperfections. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by a second-generation member of the Holzapfel family and has remained in the family ever since.
