A MUSEUM COPY OF A CINNABAR LACQUER BOX

A MUSEUM COPY OF A CINNABAR LACQUER BOX China, Republic period (1912-1949). Molded, the top of the cover with a coastal or lakeside scene depicting scholars and attendants, all set amongst rocky outcrops and trees receding to the distance. The sides molded with lotus sprays repeated on the sides of the circular box above the foot, all supported on a key-fret bordered foot, the interior and recessed base lacquered black. Incised with an apocryphal six-character Qianlong reign mark to the underside. Condition: Good condition with minor wear, cracks, and minimal losses to the interior and underside. Provenance: British private collection, according to the current owner acquired from an Estate Sale in the USA.
