CERVANTES, Miguel de (1547-1616) - Dell'ingegnoso cittadino Don Chisciotte della Mancia. Venice: Andrea Baba, 1625. First complete Italian translation of the two parts of the famous Spanish novel. The first part of the work was first published by Baba in 1622 but the complete edition was issued only three years later. The translation was curated by Lorenzo Franciosini (1600-1645) an important linguist and author of an Italian-Spanish grammar and dictionary that was widely used until the early 1900s. Scarce on the market, only two copies have been recorded in auction, Cowans in 2019 and Sotheby's in 1963 (RBH). 2 volumes, 8vo (157 x 105mm). Printer's device on title (some stains and sporadic spotting, last sheet of the second volume with three small holes with loss of few letters). Contemporary vellum binding (the volumes differ slightly in size but the set does not appear to be a recently composed copy). Provenance: Michelang. Butius. Prima traduzione italiana completa delle due parti del celebre romanzo spagnolo. Il primo volume venne per la prima volta pubblicato, sempre da Baba, nel 1622 ma si dovette aspettare tre anni per un'edizione completa in due volumi. La traduzione si deve a Lorenzo Franciosini (1600-1645) importante linguista e autore di una grammatica e di un dizionario italiano-spagnolo che sono rimasti attuali fino ai primi del '900. Raro sul mercato, si sono registrate solo due copie passate in asta, Cowans nel 2019 e Sotheby's nel 1963 (RBH). 2 volumi, 8vo (157 x 105mm). Marca tipografica al frontespizio (qualche macchia e sporadiche fioriture, ultima carta del secondo volume con tre piccoli fori con perdita di qualche lettera). Legatura coeva omogenea in piena pergamena (i volumi differiscono lievemente per misura, ma non sembrerebbe trattarsi di un esemplare composto recentemente). Provenienza: Michelang. Butius.
