Shibayama lidded box, Japan, early 20th c. Rectangular ivory body with inlays of various materials, mainly mother-of-pearl. Main scene on the lid with a pheasant on a flowering plum tree, birds flitting around, lily pads and flowers. Lid interior with blooming bouquet of flowers and butterflies, as well as exterior walls. The bottom has a crack, on the lid there is a small missing part (a flower in the tree), 4.5 x 17 x 11 cm.
