FRANÇOIS POMPON (1855-1933) Cow, Flower of Love Original plaster from 1927 Unique and exceptional example painted by Pompon Lacquered later for the cast, damaged by the casting and restored to the horns, udder, tail, legs and hindquarters On the back of the terrace, old label of Printemps, inscriptions in pencil 20.4 x 38.7 x 13.2 cm Original plaster dated 1927 Unique piece painted by Pompon Lately lacquered for foundry, damaged by the cast and restored to the horns, teat, tail, legs and haunches 8 x 15 1/4 x 5 1/4 in. Studio plaster casts preserved from the 1933 bequest, a copy dedicated to Auguste Trémont (Museum, Luxembourg) The Head has been studied separately: plaster casts preserved in Dijon. A return to the naturalism of the 19th century revisited by Pompon, a sculpted painting from which the sculptor had wanted to emancipate himself: the drawing dates from before 1914 with the Calf, but the 1927 model seems to have a connection with a trip to Savoy (photos Fonds M'O) A certificate can be obtained from Mrs Liliane Colas, specialist of the artist and author of the Catalogue Raisonné.
