Serial number: WAUZZZ85ZCA901202 A car myth Collector's registration 139904 original km CT OK Audi struck a blow in 1980 with the introduction of the Quattro. As its name suggests, it was the first mass-produced sports coupé with permanent all-wheel drive from the brand with the rings. The first generation of the Quattro was powered by a 2.1-litre, 10-valve, 5-cylinder engine (WR type), equipped with a turbocharger and an air exchanger that increased power to 200 bhp (instead of the 170 bhp of the version without the air exchanger that was fitted to the 200 Turbo). The Audi Quattro is easily recognisable by its widened fenders and specific bumpers, which differentiate it from the Audi GT coupe from which it was derived. The 0 to 100 km/h time of the car is 7.1 seconds and the top speed is 222 km/h. The Quattro's all-wheel drive system is original for its time because, unlike most other vehicles of the time equipped with all-wheel drive, it is not only equipped with a central differential allowing permanent all-wheel drive (the front or rear wheels are not connectable unlike the Audi A3, Audi TT or other Audi R8 which have a coupling allowing to drive more or less the rear wheels or the front wheels for the last one) but in addition, this last one is integrated in a casing fixed behind the gearbox which derives closely from that of the Audi Coupe GT. This is made possible by the gearbox's secondary shaft being hollow, through which the drive shaft to the front differential passes. This makes the system compact, light and easy to integrate. This system will be continued until the Audi A4 B7 and will be replaced for the following generation (including Audi A5 and Audi Q5) by a new system allowing to move back the engine and requiring to misalign the front driveshaft to advance the front differential. Our example is completely original and fitted with new tyres. It has been recently serviced for a total of 2500 euros. It had a paint job 6 years ago and is ready, in the right hands, to make its turbocharged 5 cylinder engine sing again. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a rising star in the classic car market.
