GREAT LEKANIS GLOBULAR APULA TO RED FIGURES DATING: last twenty-five years of the fourth century. a. C. MATERIAL AND TECHNIQUE: beige figulina clay, glossy black paint, white and yellow overpainting, modeled by fast lathe. Lid: cylindrical knob with grip echino backwards, hemispherical brim fold for the joint in the cup Cup: hemispherical, molded truncated cone foot with throat at attachment to bowl. DECORATION: lid: scene of gynoecium with two women seated and facing, a three-quarter time with a thin chiton that has slipped from the left shoulder uncovering a breast and wearing a string of pearls in two turns, armillas on the wrists and shoes that supports a situla in the right and an open cyst and a ball wrapped in ribbons in the left; to his feet an inverted hydria; in front of her a female figure seated on the left and retrospiciente with stephane radiata, hair wrapped in an embroidered kekryphalos, earrings and double strand of pearls at the neck; the woman holds a mirror in the right and a cista of architectural form in the left and wears an embroidered chiton and pleated that comes down to his feet, an inverted amphora on the ground, behind her a naked androgynous hero, in flight to the right with stephane radiata, hair wrapped in an embroidered kekryphalos, armille and pearl necklaces, with large wings arched on his back in the act of offering a large censer to the woman with the right, while the other hand holds a fluttering tapeworm; behind the erotic a large inflorescence rising from the ground and a naked ephebe, seated to the right on a rock on which his cloak is thrown, turns his head back towards the woman seated in the center of the scene and holds a flowering thyrsus in his left hand and a decorated cista in his right. Cup: ovoli motif on upper rim and double fillet at bottom; foot attachment and inside of foot spared. Side A: a young Phrygian warrior seated to the right and back with the characteristic cap on the head, pants and long-sleeved leather tunic on which is worn the tunic stopped by a belt crossed on the chest, leans with the right to the spear and has a hydria on his knees and a tapeworm, opposed to him a naked warrior with thick curly hair and bearded, seated to the left turns towards the young man in an attitude of conversation with his right arm raised. The man wears the petasus on his shoulders, the cloak stopped at the center of the chest, wearing shoehorns laced sides and supports a spear with his left hand, next to him, on the ground, two shields. Side B: a female figure seated on the right in a throne with a high back and retrospiciente holds a flabello with the right while the left leans on the seat. The woman is wearing a crown, earring and pearl necklace, armilla and shoes and a wide pleated dress that falls into soft folds, next to her a young Hermes with laurel wreath, petasus lowered on his back, cloak draped over his shoulders, holds the caduceus across his chest with his right hand, while the other hand holds a phiale. Between the two sides a large palmette open to fan between volutes and inflorescences. PRODUCTION: Apulian pottery to red figures, workshop of the Painter of Baltimore.
