Tenschert 2020 cat.no. 21 - Originally written as part of Jakob Mennel's six-volume "Fürstliche Chronik, gennant Kaiser Maximilians Geburtsspiegel" (1512-1517), the last two parts of which collected legends of saints who belonged to or were related by marriage to the Habsburg family. Almost 300 years later, the art historian Adam von Bartsch rediscovered the original woodblocks in the Vienna Court Library and brought them out for the first time in the present edition. Incorrectly, the woodcuts were still attributed to Hans Burgkmair instead of Leonard Beck. Plate no. 43 with the mongram H.S.K. by Dürer's student Hans Springinklee. - Nice copy with nameplate by Günther Leisten, Cologne. - With 119 woodcut plates. Half leather (bumped, front joint cracked). Title stained.
