Not in Adams. - Edition published a year after the first printing of one of Luther's most important early sermons, with the first execution of the fundamentals to Protestant moral teaching. The work is dedicated to Duke John of Saxony, brother of the Elector. In a letter to Spalatin, Luther mentions this work and describes it as the best he had written so far. Luther, who still calls himself an Augustinian on the title, wore the habit of his order until 1524. - The elaborate title border with 2 columns, dancing putti and 3 half figures; see Johnson pl. 27 and cf. Pflug-Hartung pl. 44 (on the 1520 edition). - Some spotting, a few leaves with small marginal tears, 2 bibliographical stamps on the back, inner joints brittle, endpapers renewed. - Bookplate. - (12) - With woodcut title border. Modern half leather. Partly somewhat stained, few sheets with margin damages, hinges cracked, endpapers renewed.
