[MANUSCRIT - BRETAGNE - COËTQUEN] - Manuscript from the beginning of the 18th century (1716-1721) in one volume in-folio, calf, spine decorated with coats of arms (period binding). Collection of 166 manuscript letters ADDRESSED TO THE MARQUIS DE COËTQUEN, including : - 2 L. S. Philippe d'Orléans (December 4, 1716 & July 11, 1717); - 16 L. S. Villars (1716-1718); - 2 L. S. the duke of Guiche (1717); - 146 L. S. Le Blanc (1717-1721). ATTACHED: 3 unsigned memoirs (relating to the affair of the Cellamare conspiracy). These documents concern mainly military matters (organization, housing, supplies, discipline, smuggling...) in the province of Brittany for which the marquis de Coëtquen was responsible. Malo Auguste, Marquis de Coëtquen (1678-1727), was appointed commander in Brittany in 1716 and governor of Saint-Malo in 1717. Between 1716 and 1721, the four above-mentioned persons sent him the letters gathered here. They are Philippe, duke of Orleans, regent of the kingdom (1674-1723), Claude Louis Hector de Villars, duke of Villars, peer and general marshal of France, chief of the Council of War and adviser to the Council of Regency (1653-1734), Antoine de Gramont, duc de Gramont (known as de Guiche), peer and (future) marshal of France, vice-president of the Conseil de la Guerre and adviser to the Conseil de Régence (1671-1725), and Claude Le Blanc, secretary of state for war and adviser to the Conseil de Régence (1669-1728).
