POWERS Hiram [Woodstock, Vermont, 1805 - Florence, 1873], American neoclassical sculptor. Rare correspondence of 32 autographed or signed letters addressed to Bernard Sancholle (his marble dealer) in Serravezza. From Florence between 1840 and 1856. [1840 (5), 1841 (5), 1842 (5), 1843 (6), 1844 (7), 1847 (1), 1849 (2), 1856 (2)]. 1840: Correspondence of 5 signed autograph letters addressed to Bernard Sancholle, written in English. August 17, 1840; 1 page in-4°, written in Italian. October 17, 1840; 2 pages in-8°. Powers talks about the marble he received to make his sculpture of Eve. He also discusses the difficulty of getting a block of marble to make two sculptures and the rising prices. However, he is willing to pay for quality. November 24, 1840, 1 page in 8 : Powers is very happy to know that a very beautiful piece of marble is available and that the price is reasonable. December 17, 1840: He is very happy to learn that Bernard Sancholle can get him a marble block of the same color and quality for his statue of April. December 1, 1840; 1 page in 8.
