It is, after the original, "the most sought after of all" (Vicaire). Elegantly printed, it is decorated with the same illustrations as the original: a frontispiece and 3 figures engraved by Chauveau representing a garden where gardeners work and lord and lady walk, a planted garden, and the interior of a kitchen. Both valet de chambre to the King and horticulturist, the author met with great success from the first publication of this famous work in 1651. The first part, devoted to the cultivation of fruit trees, and the second to vegetable gardens and vegetables, herbs and fruits of the soil, are followed by a real treatise on jam and recipes for dried fruits, jellies, marzipan, macaroons ... "Its main originality compared to other jam makers of the seventeenth century is the place given to the preservation of fruits without particular preparations" (Livres en bouche).
