New translation from the Greek by Jehan de Starach, who dedicated it to the baron de Saint Plancard, captain of the galleys, a Gascon like himself: this treatise by Galen evokes not only meats but also fruits and vegetables, women's milk, humours, honey, fish, mushrooms and truffles... Claudius Galen, born in Pergamon around 131, was one of the greatest physicians of antiquity; he treated the emperors Marcus Aurelius, Lucius Verus, Commodus, Pertinax and Severus. He composed one of the first medical treatises entirely devoted to food, the famous De alimentorum facultatibs lib. III, and a treatise on maintaining health: De Sanitate tuenda libri sex.
