The original Italian edition of this work appeared in 1550 for the first 10 days, then in 1569 for the complete edition in 20 days. Nicknamed "the restorer of agriculture in Italy", the agronomist Agostino Gallo (1499-1570) studied cultivation on the land of Brescia; he introduced the cultivation of rice and alfalfa in Italy. In this long dialogue between "Vincent" and "John the Baptist", he defends the benefits of wine, "a benign and happy liquor", and advises on the choice of land, meadows and hay, viticulture, grape harvests, recovery of spoiled wine (days 3 and 4). The book also deals with gardening, arboriculture, oils and herbs, cattle care, bees and honey, silkworms, hunting... The long alphabetical table at the end of the book gives a detailed account of the multitude of topics covered. From the H. Pasquier library (printed bookplate).
