In-8, porphyry calf, triple fillet, smooth spine decorated, marbled edges (Binding of the period). 136 pp. Third edition, partly original, of this curious collection of reflections on women, young men, marriage and celibacy: first published in 1783, it was a tremendous success. Copy of the author's son with his handwritten bookplate on the title: Gd Lareinière fils. Hinges and headpieces rubbed, one spine split. Attached: the first three quires of the same text (48 pp.), loose. Copy on hollande, bearing this autograph dispatch signed by the author: "À] Monsieur Nyon, imprimeur du Parlement de la part de l'auteur. Grimod de La Reynière (February 8, 1786)". Grimod de La Reynière (1758 - 1838), lawyer, journalist, literary critic, was an epicurean and a fine gastronome: father of gastronomic journalism, he founded in 1803 the famous Almanach des gourmands, the first gastronomic guide, and published the Manuel des Amphitryons in 1808.
