LEBAS (J.)]. Festin joyeux, ou La Cuisine en musique, en vers libres. Paris, Lesclapart père et fils, 1738. 2 parts in one vol. in-12, marbled half-calf, smooth spine decorated, brown title-piece, red edges (pastiche binding, of which the old spine has been preserved). I) x pp, (1) f., pp. 17 to 27, (3) pp, (1) blank f., one folding map (table servie), xciii pp., (1) bl. - II) Title, 189 pp. (1) blank f., 24 pp. (airs), 16 pp. (tables). First collection of recipes in verse, accompanied by the principal airs in vogue at the time which allow to sing them and to teach them thus easily (like the pig with the galantine, which is sung on the air of "Marie-Anne was coquette"). The first part deals with tables of twelve to fifteen people, served in three courses of thirteen dishes. The second part, subtitled Ambigu, announces more informal meals that mix meats and desserts. The author, a kitchen officer, says that he was applauded during the coronation feasts of Louis XV, in October 1722. The table of tunes (pp. 17-27) has been bound at the beginning of the first part to facilitate reading, and not at the end of volume II as expected. Some foxing. Small hole in the last leaf.
